Burning of Zozobra
September 4 @ 3:30 pm - 10:00 pm
Beginning in 2014 The Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe embarks on an ambitious decade long project to culminate with the 100th anniversary of the Burning of Zozobra in 2024.
Through the grand “Decades Project” the Club will select and fully replicate a past Zozobra from each preceding decade beginning with Will Shuster’s very first Zozobra’s from the 1920s. In 2015 a Zozobra from the 1930’s will be replicated and 2016 will bring us a 1940’s Zozobra.
This will culminate with the grand finale in 2024 marking the one hundredth anniversary of the Burning of Will Shuster’s Zozobra and the keeping of the promise made by The Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe to Will Shuster, one of Santa Fe’s most famous artists, to present and maintain the tradition of one of the world’s most unique cultural events, The Burning of Zozobra, in perpetuity.
The decade’s music and pop culture will be interjected into all the fun as well. “This is great way to relive and celebrate our history and culture and the educational opportunities for our schools, educators and youth are limitless” said Ray Sandoval, Zozobra committee Chairman.
