La Sociedad Folklórica is a non-profit organization whose mission is to collect, preserve and pass on the knowledge of the customs and traditions of their Spanish ancestors, (some centuries old), to younger generations and the general public. Like its founder, Cleofas Jaramillo, many of the 45 members can trace their family lineage to the first Europeans of New Mexico – the Spanish colonists of 1598.

In keeping with its mission, the Folklórica invites the public to experience their annual customs and traditions, such as the Baile de Cascarones (Dance of the Eggshells), which includes the Baile de los Compadres. Learn traditional folk dances like baile de la escoba, baile de los compadres, la marcha marcha de los novios, la varsiovana, and many more.
